Outside my Window

Outside my window i smell the stench of poverty

The belief that we are next to nothing or one in the same

I see a man that thinks he’s nothing

He thinks he’s revolutionary, a renaissance man

He portrays the typical stereotype he was breed to follow

Ignorance is his mantra

He’s blind to the socioeconomic position he finds himself in

Nor does he care

Brokenhearted by the pains and scraps of society

He drives on in fear

Not of faith, but of man

He’s scared of his fellow man

The rich man laughs at the prospect of a free and equal society

It serves him no purpose, no merit

The poor will always be poor if they continue to live in the mentality that they are privileged

Religion blinded the eye of the realist, of the opportunist

They told him to wait on salvation and go through hardship and hard trials

They told him who he loves is wrong

Several men wrote the morals by which you follow

Still your’re blind to the facts

The facts that have been skewed by falsehoods and bullshit

Read young one

Reading opens the door to education

To understanding

To a true revolution that will not be televised

It will not be televised cause it’s in the mind

In the mind of the downtrodden

In the mind of the minority

Most importantly in the mind of the People

Outside my window i see hope

I see the Future

If Tears Could

If only tears could manifest into the pain you’re feeling

Then maybe you could see the pain I’m living

This one single tear rolling down my face

Represents lack of that warming embrace

Represents a cupboard and refrigerator that’s bare

Represents yet another shutoff notice or no money to spare

Or another broken heart not yet done healing

We try but who notices

Definitely not the rich unless it’s you owing

I should definitely start whoring

Cause these bills keep mounting

And at least if I’m mounting the cash registers ringing

Her eyes met mine

Such happiness they portrayed

Who am I to show her reality?

And watch that light in her eyes slowly grow dim

Watch her waste away cause life’s too grim

Show me a man who has it all together

Who has not been declined at the register

I’ll show you a liar, a thief and a rebellious treason

All with good causes, they just don’t try to reason

One day you’ll begin to understand my struggle

And why I cry these tears for a reason

Drudge

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

Dragged through the filth of society

I was thrown to the hungry wolves

Naked

Alone

Where they ravaged my heart for eternity

Long suffering the trials of life

My soul is depleted

Empty of life

Only sustained by the hope of better days

Better days to do better things

I accompanied misery on a trip round town

If was as if I was invisible

No one cared to care that misery was taking its stroll

Making them love less

Lonely

No one to share the pain

No one to console the aching mind

Tired

Plagued it seems

Like sickness flowing from an open sore

The meek promised so much

But in the end bound for an eternity in hell

Stay strong

Stay positive

It’ll be over soon

But you’re not here nor am I there

No amount of money in the world is worth this test

And the drudge continues….

Is Lauryn Hill a Poetic Genius?

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

The always soulful Lauryn Noel Hill is one of the most prolific artists of our time. Always an avid writer, her soul stirring songs has captured the hearts of millions worldwide. Hill has an amazing voice and the topics of her songs are the defining point of her work.

Oppression, love, passion, heartbreak, is just a few of the many emotions she touches on in her songs. She has won many awards and accolades, but these pale in comparison to how her words have changed millions of lives. Her true poetic soul invites us to feel where she is coming from and gives us advice on how to reach our divine goals.

Yes, Lauryn Hill is, in my opinion, a poetic genius. Her ability to touch millions, her passion for her work, and her continued effort to write a change in society will forever be remembered. Her poetic expressions are truly felt.
