House of Cards

07 Jan

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

Fragile stairs leading to nowhere

Strong winds blow, stressing the structure that has stood the test of time

Bending and swaying the foundation that has become weak

For many years it stood with pride

Over time the heart was worn

Becoming weak from constant stress

Tested by the adversity it faced daily

The small aspects of life slowly chip away at the core

Empty spaces once filled with laughter

Missing the love that kept it strong

Kept all of the pieces working as one

Petty disputes fragmented the love

A shell remains of something once beautiful

No longer is it able to hold it all together

No longer can it endure such stress

Now void of life and love

It all falls

Like a house made of cards
