Kings’ Legacy (for Martin Luther King and Barack Obama)

19 Jan

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

Years and Years
We have fought for so many years
Upon this land of supposed prosperity and freedom
Striped of the privilege of the American Dream
Now they must grant us our seat at the table
Because today we stand on the shoulders of giants
Overcome we have
Through the fire we pushed on
Looking over our shoulder only at the historical
Focused on our future endeavors
A young preacher from Georgia
A young Senator from Illinois
Two dynamic people
Two inspirations to the masses
Their greatness unparalleled
One preacher’s revelation has become a reality
We all hold hands as one
In this moment in history
As we welcome our 44th President of the United States
President Barack Obama

All I’m going to say is that this should be read tomorrow. It is so wonderful that we have pushed passed all the shit they tried to throw in our way and look at us now. I am so proud at this moment that I’m at a lost for words.

    Well, said, Tony.

Tomorrow, we get our seat at the table. Langston Hughes was right. They’ll not dare say, go eat in the kitchen then.

Wasn’t Tuesday amazing? King said he had looked over the other side of the mountaintop, but may not be able to come along. He saw it. He saw.

I hope there’s some changes gonna come.
On fb I wrote on the profile page that my money is spent for taxes to build a new yankee stadium for the richest ball club in the world when mexicans live 3 families in a 1 bedroom apartment, and struggle to survive this shit. And they all work – even the teens in these families.

it aint right. Give my taxes to build affordable housing for the poor & working blue collar workers please
